Upcoming Casting Crowns Concert

A few weeks ago, Caroline and Greg sang Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me) which is on the latest Casting Crowns album.

Don't forget about the upcoming Casting Crowns concert on Sept 16 at Roberts Stadium.

Be sure to be at church on the first day of Sunday School (first Sunday after Labor Day) because you will have a chance to win a backstage pass. Four lucky people from Hemenway will get to meet Casting Crowns the night of the concert!! You must be present in church that Sunday to have a chance to win.

Basketball Fundraiser

The youth had a goal to raise $500 for the basketball fundraiser. They ended up raising $505! Thanks to everyone who supported our youth. These funds will be used for upcoming trips such as the canoe trip.

As a reward, the kids were promised that they could choose one person from the congregation to "kiss a pig". Unfortunately, we were unable to locate a pig, so Matt and Caroline's dog Tank has graciously agreed to step in to do the honors.

The kids should be announcing within a week or two who the lucky person is that gets to kiss this...

Taste of Old Evansville

The Youth Group recently held a Taste of Old Evansille outing. We went to play miniature golf at Midget Links, which is one of the oldest miniature golf courses in Indiana. Several of the kids ate a snow cone that was described as "bigger than your head".

Following golf, we all went to Zesto to enjoy burgers, fries and shakes. Matt showed off the discipline needed to down a triple jumbo cheeseburger, and a 32 ounce chocolate shake, but rumor has it, he didn't feel too well afterward...

Someone Turned 40....

The church helped Jody celebrate her 40th birthday following the Sunday morning service.

Palm Sunday

The kids opened the service waving palms while the choir sang.

The Hemenway Bell Choir is Back!!

A tradition has returned to Hemenway. Mary has started up a new bell choir. The choir performed on Easter and Mother's Day and should be performing again soon.

Seder Meal

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Seder Meal last night. It was a very moving service that involved a discussion of the meaning of each of the different food items, and the choir sang four songs.

And in typical Hemenway fashion, the 2nd Annual Seder Meal After Party was held at Burger King in Newburgh.

Now the real question - which food was better last night? :)

Meeting TobyMac and John Cooper from Skillet!!

Before the TobyMac/Skillet concert, we all had a chance to meet TobyMac and John Cooper (lead singer of Skillet). Here's some pictures of our congregation members during the Meet n Greet.

There's only a few times in your life where you actually get to meet a celebrity. And when you do, you hope and pray that you don't cheese it up as bad as Josh did in this picture. :)

Caroline and TobyMac. I told them both, several times, please hold still or this picture will be blurry... at least I tried.

Celebrity Stalking with Caroline

While at the TobyMac/Skillet concert, Caroline noticed Ryan Seaton standing in line for some popcorn and ran over to get her picture with him. Until recently, Ryan Seaton sang lead in the group Ernie Haase & Signature Sound.

Nice job on the celebrity stalking Caroline!!

TobyMac/Skillet Concert

Seven people from Hemenway attended the TobyMac/Skillet concert last Friday at Robert's Stadium. It was a great time with wonderful music and fellowship. We enjoyed some great shows, with loud (ask Peggy and Kay how loud!) music, 20 foot high flames, and fireworks!!

Skillet's show was full of up-beat music with lots of pyrotechnics.

TobyMac's show was very energetic with lots of dancing and pop, hip-hop and rap music.

A Hemenway Tradition Returns!!

After many years of silence, the bells are returning to Hemenway!! Thanks to Mary Margarett for her efforts in starting up the bell choir. This is a great time of fun and fellowship. The first performance is planned for Easter Sunday - don't miss it!!

Lizzie singing "Hallelujah Crazy the Lord"

Here is a video of Lizzie singing "Hallelujah, Praise Ye the Lord" with her own version of the lyrics "Hallelujah, Crazy the Lord" :)

If you haven't had a chance to be a part of our Sunday School programs, you are missing out. It is great to see our children growing in their understanding and love for Christ through all the work of our wonderful Sunday School teachers.

Classes are for all ages (including adults) and start at 9:00 AM every Sunday morning. Please come be a part of the fellowship!

And if that isn't enough to convince you, we have donuts too :)

Aren't They Cute?

Is this part of a new McDonald's campaign?

Aren't Alyssa and Karyssa cute? Thanks to their mom and dad for "accidentally" getting me a copy of this picture :)

Game Tournament

The 1st Annual Hemenway game tournament was a huge success. We had 22 people competing in both singles and teams competitions throughout the day.

Events included everything from foosball and shuffleboard to Connect 4 and Wii Ping Pong. All of the kids went home with prizes and Anthony proudly wore his new camouflage slippers home in the snow! Congratulation to Shelby for taking home the top prize, a DVD player!

Here is a list of the tournament winners:

Shuffleboard - Matt/Kelly
Foosball - Lois/Abbie
Stick Hockey - Matt/Caroline
Air Hockey - Kyle
Wii Ping Pong - Matt
Connect 4 - TJ
Washers - Anthony/Collin

Sadly, it was reported after the tournament that Kelly did not get a prize :( However, it appears that the satisfaction of winning shuffleboard (and by winning, I mean completely tearing up the competition...) was prize enough for him :)

Blast From The Past

It's amazing what you can find in the church basement. Here is a picture of a Halloween party from way back.

Christmas Parade 2009

I can truly say there has never been as big of a demand at Hemenway for a given video as there was for this one.

Rumors have been circulating regarding apparent "attacks" on Boonville's public law enforcement officials during the Christmas parade in past years, and the possible involvement of the youth at Hemenway.

In order to determine exactly what has been going on, a group of brave adults (including several Session members) agreed to ride along on the float this year, and secretly recorded the events of this year's parade.

The video speaks for itself - you will see the adults working tirelessly to control the out-of-control youth on the float. Our sincere thanks goes out to these brave adults who risked life and limb to gather this footage.
